Summer Slo-Puck: A League Game 3 Summaries 7-22-08

League Co-Commissioner; Andrew Lutz | July 23, 2008 | 9:37 am

Game 1 Summary: Black Widows vs. T-Rhyme

At first, this game seemed to be an even matchup between two solid teams. Joe Harris of T-Rhyme opened up the scoring only 2:57 into the first period, but was later matched by Andrew Hess of Black Widows. The first ended 2-1, in favor of T-Rhyme; yet this period would not forecast the rest of the game. T-Rhyme scored quickly, 33 seconds into the second period, making a point that they deserve the top spot in the league. The Black Widows were not disrupted by the quick goal, and managed to tie the game up with two consecutive goals in the second. At one point, the game was tied at three apiece. However, the final tally of 9-4 tells the story of third period full of goals. T-Rhyme scored four times, securing their victory in the third period.

Three Stars:
1. Brett Stram (F; T-Rhyme; 2G 1A)
2. Eric Blasiman (F; T-Rhyme; 1G 2A)
3. Brady Frederick (F; T-Rhyme; 1G 2A)

Game 2 Summary: Team Brett vs. Danny Boys

This game featured a battle between the young and skilled Team Brett, and the older and experienced Danny Boys. The two teams were tied in the standings before the game, so a close one was expected, and the two teams delivered. The game began with each team scoring twice in the first, back and fourth. The second period went to Team Brett, scoring four goals and forward Andy Reuhl collecting a hat trick. Instead of bringing the Danny Boys down, this large lead acted more as a spark of motivation, driving Danny Boys on a monumental comeback attempt. Danny Boys pulled four goals together in the third period, all by different players showing their ability to work together, yet the four goals were not enough. Team Brett won the intense battle 8-7.

Three Stars:
1. Kevin Rawlik (F; Danny Boys; 3G 3A)
2. Andy Reuhl (F; Team Brett; 3G 1A)
3. Brett Heringhaus (F; Team Brett; 2G 1A)

The game had a quick start with Trevor Langel of Fremont Ross scoring 1:30 into the game. Fremont Alumni came to play though, scoring four straight to end the first period. While Alumni put on a scoring clinic in the first, Fremont Ross matched their four goal streak in the second. The third period was all about goaltending though, each goalie stopping seven of eight shots. While Ross showed signs of a great comeback, pulling within one with 5:58 remaining in the third, it was too little too late. Fremont Alumni won the Fremont rivalry, 7-6.

Three Stars:
1. Ryan Pickut (F; Fremont Alumni; 1G 4A)
2. Chad Channing (F; Fremont Alumni; 2G 2A)
3. Mike Smith (F; Fremont Ross; 3G 1A)

In the second the goals began to pour in with the Ice Hogs tallying six while the Habs managed to post two. The Habs kept it close in the third, but it was not enough to overcome the first two periods, the game ending with the Ice Hogs on top 11-5.

Three Stars:
1. Jay Bechstein (F; Ice Hogs; 3G 1A)
2. John Rich (F; Ice Hogs; 3G 1A)

Summer Slo-Puck: A League Game 2 Summaries 7-8-08

League Co-Commissioner; Andrew Lutz | July 10, 2008 | 1:00 pm

Game 1 Summary: T-Rhyme vs. Danny Boys
The first game of the night was an exciting offensive game, seeing a total of 12 goals scored by the end. The night started off with back-and-forth scoring, Danny Boys then T-Rhyme, until the first period ended T-Rhyme on top 4-3. The second period was void of goals until each team netted one with less than four minutes remaining in the period. While the majority of the game was even matched, the third period was the turning point. In the third, T-Rhyme managed to outscore Danny Boys 3-0, and Robert Yohe netted his first hat-trick of the season for the final goal of the contest. T-Rhyme won in a great game, 7-5

Three Stars:
1. Robert Yohe (F; T-Rhyme; 3G 1A)
2. Craig Blaisman (F; T-Rhyme; 1PPG 1A)
3. Jeff Archer (F; Danny Boys; 2G 1A)

Game 2 Summary: Team Brett vs. Black Widows
The second contest of the night featured two fast paced teams, each capable of great offense. We were to see both teams put the puck in the net several times, yet settled for what turned out to be the most evenly played game this season! The score after the first and second periods did not tell the true tale of the game. Black Widows lead 2-1 after the first, and 4-2 after the second. In the third though, Team Brett tallied three goals with Black Widows only scoring once, bringing the game to a 5-5 tie. The shot total at the end was Team Brett 30, Black Widows 27; each team truly earned their point.

Three Stars:
1. Andrew Hess (F; Black Widows; 2G 1A)
2. Wade Lefevre (F; Brett; 2G 1A)
3. Trey Rishel (F; Black Widows; 2G 1A)

BGSU Stick-and-Puck Sessions

Denis Paquet | July 9, 2008 | 9:48 am

The BGSU Ice Arena is considering adding stick-and-puck sessions to our schedule this fall. This would be a time to work on fundamentals with friends, teammates, family, or individually: skating, stickhandling, passing, and shooting; all in a non-scrimmage environment.

We’ve put together a survey to gauge interest in stick-and-puck sessions as well as other BGSU Ice Arena hockey programs. This is a great chance to provide your input on the Ice Arena’s hockey programs – let us know why you participate (or why not). If you have not completed a survey yet, please open the attached file and fill out: you can either print it up and turn in a hard copy to the skate shop (attention Andrew or Denis) or use the text select tool and copy into a Word file and Email back to us (dmpaque@bgsu.edu).

Please forward this survey to other hockey players you know. Even if they don’t play here at BGSU, their input is valuable as well!

Thanks, and see you on the ice!

This high scoring matchup started out in great fashion; Edward Smith of Fremont Ross scoring shorthanded on a breakaway! Less than three minutes later, Ed Smith tallied his second of the night. Three Stars:
1. Edward Smith (F; Fremont Ross; 5G 2A)
